Gold, exotic flowers, seafood and overseas travel were once luxuries for the rich and the privileged. Economic “growth” fuelled by over-consumption has made indulgence in extravagance an aspect of our lives in both developed and emerging economies.

However, have we ever considered such ordinary indulgences relate to the life and death of some indigenous people on the other side of the world? It is the age of consumerism; we crave endlessly for materialistic satisfaction. How long could the resources of our planet sustain to fulfil our everlasting needs?

The Rocking Consumption series is a Radio Television Hong Kong commissioned project. It was broadcasted in Hong Kong in 2005.
